The building will be 116,700 sq ft and once complete, will allow all manufacturing processes and offices to be housed under one roof. We currently operate out of two facilities, a few miles apart from each other. Not always convenient, but we make it work. The new offices and production plant will streamline so many processes. It really is such an exciting time for all of us here at Ventrac.

Wayne County, Ohio is an amazing community where people come together to help support those in need.  At Ventrac, in Orrville, giving back to the community has always been an important part of their company beliefs.  So, the management team set plans in motion for a service project to assist the Ida Sue School/Nick Amster Workshop and the Christian Children’s Home of Ohio organizations in Wooster with some needed outdoor maintenance projects and improvements.

On the day of the project, Ventrac took seven of their tractors, over ten attachments and twelve of the company managers for a day of labor intensive work and giving back to the community.  The President, Director of Engineering, CFO, Production Manager were among the personnel who came out to run the tractors, pull overgrown shrubs, rake, till, seed, mulch and do general cleanup.  Several area businesses teamed up with Ventrac to support the project by supplying new sand, mulch and other services for the day’s jobs.   Lil’John’s Transport, Albert Miller Trucking, Boreman Hardwoods, Holmes Supply and D&S Stone all rallied together with supplies for both Ida Sue/Nick Amster and the Christian Children’s Home.

Dallas Steiner, President, said, “ As a company, we have been blessed with a strong 2010 year and as managers, we wanted to be able to give back to our great community.”  For Ventrac, this service project is the first of its kind. “I hope that we can broaden this type of thing to the larger Ventrac employee body,”  says Dallas Steiner,  “It was a great day for us and a wonderful time to use our equipment in the areas of our expertise.”

Several large landscaping cleanup projects were done at the Ida Sue School/Nick Amster Workshop, including resurfacing the ball diamond.  Ventrac did a variety of work on the diamond from cutting back the sod edges to raking and finishing the top layer with a fresh new layer of sand.  The ball diamond is an important part of the sports program at Ida Sue/Nick Amster and since the field is also used for Special Olympics games, they welcomed the site of a newly resurfaced field.  Don Rammel, coach for the Special Olympics and Nick Amster Workshop’s recreation coach said, “This is coming at a perfect time.   We just won the state championship over the weekend and it’s just perfect timing.”  A newly groomed field is always a nice treat, but for these special players, it means even more.  The school and workshop is no longer receiving help for the upkeep of the ball diamond, so they greatly appreciate help from volunteers.

The Christian Children’s Home of Ohio needed a revamping of their outdoor volleyball court and ball diamond.  Ventrac reshaped and groomed the ball diamond and added a new layer of sand with the help of their arsenal of equipment.  The diamond was then polished off with the Ventrac ballpark groomer.  The volleyball court was filled and groomed with a layer of fresh sand so the residents could enjoy playing on a new court.

At the end of the day, the landscape beds were cleaned, a fresh layer of mulch was laid,  the ball diamonds were groomed and a new grass seeding was set.  The work was hard, but evoked a deep feeling of satisfaction that Ventrac was able to lend a hand and make a beneficial contribution for a greater cause to these organizations that provide nurturing support to individuals on a daily basis.

Denver Steiner’s backyard looked like a nightmare of thick brush and giant weeds that were over 6 feet tall in places,  but the tall thistles, thorns and briers were no match for his Ventrac.   His tractor, equipped with dual wheels for added traction, pushed through the swampy areas, over the small creek and up and down the slopes without a hitch.  The tough cut mower chewed up the tall brush like it was nothing.

Denver’s acreage also boasts some pretty hefty slopes with some topping a 30 degree incline.   Maintaining hill traction for up and down movement as well as sideways maneuvering was not even an issue for the Ventrac tractor.   It was pretty amazing to watch the capabilities of how Ventrac moved about the slopes with a powerfully smooth action.

In addition to clearing out the brush, Denver needed some work done to ready the area for seeding a new lawn.  His dad operated a  Power Rake attachment with another tractor that easily worked out the large compacted chunks of dirt and quickly smoothed the area for seeding.

The Power Rake attachment easily handled the unruly weeds

Today, the buzz is all about going green and being environmentally friendly.   But when landowners are dealing with weed issues in driveways and lanes on their property, it is difficult to stay “green.”   When weeds take over gravel driveways, getting rid of weeds often involves applying chemicals to the ground where animals or people walk, which is not an environmentally green solution.

But how do you deal with unsightly weeds popping up in gravel driveways or sand horse arenas, dirt pathways and gravel parking areas?

At a local horse farm, a demo was given by Ventrac using their 4231TD compact tractor equipped with the Power Rake attachment, along with a Terra Rake and Slip Scoop.   The farm owner prefers to use chemical free and green methods whenever possible to maintain the grounds and horse arena.  Over the summer, the horse arena had become overrun with weeds and got out of control, making it impossible to level and manicure the arena for riding.  Chemical sprays were out of the question due to the animal contact in the area.  After several futile attempts by the homeowner to rid the horse arena of the weeds using a disc, tiller and a drag, the situation became overwhelming.  Removing the weeds by hand would be a tedious task.  Then the cost of first, spraying the arena with chemical sprays, then second, adding new sand, would have been money robbing for this homeowner.  The costs could have been hundreds of dollars.

So what alternative was there?  How could weeds be removed quickly and with no chemicals?

Ventrac was about to demonstrate a non-chemical method of removing weeds that created a superb horse riding arena as a result.

Now it was time to switch attachments.  With a couple of quick actions, requiring no-tools, the tractor unit was hooked up to the Ventrac Terra Rake.  The Terra Rake performed a tremendous job at leveling the ground while sifting out the weed roots that the Power Rake had destroyed.  Passing across the sand with the Terra Rake collected all the dead roots while putting the final finish on the arena. Once the Terra Rake had done its job, a Ventrac Slip Scoop bucket was quickly and easily mounted on the tractor unit.  There were a few remaining piles of weed debris left in the arena that the Slip Scoop quickly carried away in a snap.

A driveway demo was also conducted with the Power Rake churning up the weed laden gravel, making it appear to have been given a layer of fresh gravel within minutes.  One simple trek over the gravel proved to be stunning.  Refreshing the gravel, bringing up the compacted aggregate and weeding without chemicals with a neat finish is what the Power Rake did best.

The homeowner also participated in the demo and later commented on “how powerful, yet how smoothly” the tractor and attachment operated.   With a few minutes of instruction, the homeowner was able to master the easy to use controls at his fingertips.  And I would say he truly enjoyed every moment of it!

He said he was amazed how fast and efficiently the horse arena was weed free and conditioned with little effort.  He was equally impressed by the method of changing attachments with Ventrac’s Minute Mount System.

Using no tools, attachments were changed quickly and smoothly, saving this homeowner time and energy.
